- BCLC - British Columbia Lottery Corporation.
The British Columbia Lottery
Corporation ('BCLC') is a Crown Corporation of the Province of
British Columbia, Canada. It has provided government sanctioned
lottery
services to those in British Columbia since 1985.
Previous to this it was an umbrella
of the Western Canada Lottery
Foundation. In conjunction with the Interprovincial Lottery
Corporation, the BCLC offers Canada's highest payout lotteries the
Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Super 7.
Lotto Super 7 is one of Canada's national lottery games, along
with Lotto 6/49. Drawn every Friday night, it has become a staple
of Canadian lottery players. Jackpots start at a guaranteed $2.5
million, and is carried over if no ticket matches all 7 numbers.
The largest jackpot awarded was in May 2002, in which 4 winners
shared a $37.8 million jackpot.
The
Lotto Super 7 game is run by
the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation which works with various
Provincial lottery corporations. The lottery is run by the
government, with profit sharing amongst the various retailers who
sell tickets. Retailers receive from the lottery a percentage of
the winnings for tickets sold from their shop (the money is not
taken from the prize award).
Millions of dollars in
prizes have been won and thousands of British Columbians are
better off because nearly 6,000 charitable and community
organizations can continue to do amazing work.
While British Columbia Lottery Corporation
is used to dealing in long odds and once-in-a-lifetime events, the
results of the Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Lotto 6/49 draw were
especially noteworthy for two reasons:
Of the seven numbers drawn (six winning numbers plus the bonus
number) six were consecutive (23, 40, 41, 42, 44 and 45 - the
bonus number was 43)
Winners in the second prize category won less prize money than
those who won the third prize category.
It was the first time for both instances! And while the draw
results are eye-catching, they are not improbable.
Lotto 6/49 is the national lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and
Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at any
lottery retailer or at PlayNow on bclc.com. Odds and winning
numbers for Lotto 6/49 are available at bclc.com.
British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC)
learned that it has been named one of BC's Top Employers for
2008 by MediaCorp as released in The Vancouver Sun, The
Province and the Victoria Times-Colonist on October 13, 2007.
Canada has two nation-wide lotteries: Lotto 6/49, and
Lotto Super 7 (which started in 1994). These games are
administered by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, which
is a consortium of the five regional lottery commissions, all
of which are owned by their respective provincial and
territorial governments. |
